    All of you zoomers and gen alpha kids coming in here acting like you know better than Dan and the Twistex team that were behind him on that same road (and are now dead thanks to exactly what he is escaping from in this video) need to do your damn research first before talking crap to him. Like really, read the links in this video's description where Dan answers common questions and also explains what happened that day, and then go look this storm up and watch the case study videos here on UA-cam, specifically the ones created by Convective Chronicles and Skip Talbot. You have no business making any sort of comment about Dan or Twistex being on Reuter at that point in time until you understand exactly what happened here. OH AND. Since so many of you are so smart and love pointing out that this is an EF3 tornado not an EF5, you might like to know that when he posted this video the tornado was rated EF5 and was later downgraded due to its mostly rural path and therefore lack of damage indicators to hold up an EF5 rating. However, you might also like to know that this tornado had sub-vortices that were clocked at ~300mph wind speeds comparable to the 1999 Moore F5's speeds that remain the highest ever recorded. One such sub-vortex is responsible for the Twistex team's end. Their vehicle was previously recorded in Dan's rear camera footage but he has removed it out of respect for and by request of the families. These chasers were not trying to make a direct intercept. This was not thrill seeking. Dan is a photographer and Twistex were storm researchers who were looking to deploy their equipment to measure the tornado's strength (yes, just like in the Twister movie). Twistex were well known for years for being cautious and making the safe plays. This tornado was an anomaly and like nothing they'd ever seen before. Do not insult these men as if you somehow know better. You don't. That's why you need to RESEARCH. P.S.: To all that wanna complain about him running stop signs while literally within TORNADIC CIRCULATION where if he stopped he would have died, I think you might want to look into becoming a professional clown as a career. :)

    It's a miracle that he didn't die. Other chasers died as a result of their chase of this tornado. Even it was officially rated an EF3, it was deadly and terrifying. It was nearly 3 miles wide and hidden in heavy rain. A reminder of how powerful mother nature is and can be. Way more powerful than we mortal humans are.

    great video but the tornado was EF3 an not EF5

    • @AMightyStorm
      @AMightyStorm День тому

      the tornado's rating was raised to EF5 back when this video was posted and later it was downgraded to EF3 because it was in mostly rural areas and there weren't enough damage indicators to get proper EF5 rating. Dan probably just never edited the title after. I don't blame him, this is a very traumatic event for him considering just behind him the Twistex team got caught by the very tornado he escaped.

    For any weather enthusiasts that are also gamers on here, mix the Halo 1 “final run” theme with this video! It’s epic! I’m sure someone will claim I’m making light of the close call in the video, and I will have to laugh at that claim!……Your luck and driving skill was unprecedented while being in the severe weather and outer perimeter of a behemoth sized tornado! Extraordinary!

    • @AMightyStorm
      @AMightyStorm День тому

      He wasn't trying to intercept it. He got on Reuter expecting to be running parallel to the tornado which was to the South but it started moving North at that same time and he realized it too late. At that same time it was expanding to its max width of 2.6miles and increasing in forward speed as well and was still heavily rain wrapped to the point where every chaser on the ground at that time did not even realize that everything they were looking at WAS the tornado. In many vids I watched, the most prominent of the many sub-vortices is mistaken as the tornado rather than the whole complex. On the same road behind Dan, the Twistex team was also traveling and those guys were notorious for being among the safest chasers in the entire community. So if even they got caught by surprise and lost their lives as a result, I don't fault Dan for being on that road. Dan was incredibly lucky to have gotten out of there when he did.

    Still, in real life, when you're close to a tornado, it's like being under a 747 that's 20 feet above you about to land. You can't hear yourself yell. Anti does sound more like 10 locomotives. I've never heard any tornado videos sound at all like it does in real life. I'm sorry but...including this one.

    A majority of lightning strikes to people are survivable, but a direct hit from a positive CG is almost invariably fatal. If you hear thunder like this and you're outside, get indoors quick, or in a vehicle.

    Hey, Dan. I wonder if you've filmed anymore big lightning since this was released, and if so, could you please include the thunder? Many of these shots don't include that, and for those who can't see the video, it's the thunder we're waiting for. It tells how close the lightning is. Thank you so much. Also, I know that there's distant lightning, too, and that constant wind during that one storm was amazing! Keep up the great work.

    I was actually at my 2nd job just off of I-55 at Butler Hill at the time of this and my boss actually saw the thing. She had us take cover quickly upon seeing it. Luckily it was far enough away that we were fine, though that didn’t stop the incoming hail and heavy rain. Scary, but what added to it was learning it also hit Columbia IL, which is where I reside now, but again luckily nothing in my town was hit. For me, this is actually the second close call with a tornado. The one in this video was an EF1 tornado. But… Back in 2011, about six weeks before I graduated high school, there was an EF4 tornado that went through Maryland Heights, and it went directly through the subdivision I lived in at the time, it missed me by about half of a street, and that one I heard loud and clear while taking cover. So that marks two narrow escapes in Tornado Alley.

    This event has kept me in its grips since day 1. I have other tornados that I admire and resepct but this one caused me and still causes me fear. I am not a believer in paranormal things, but gosh, this tornado just felt evil.. The vibe I get is "When the Hunter becomes The Hunted". It was just so relentless in its pursuit of the very people who respect it the most, and want nothing more than to see it, to understand it, and to share it. But it was having none of that. I suppose IRL, this 'relentless pursuit' was not a demon tornado, but morso expert using their past knowledge to make what woul normally be good/logical/safe decisions, except this tornado was nowhere near avreage in any metric.
